Oben AT-3565 Aluminum Tripod
One of my go-to favorites is the Oben AT-3565 Aluminum Tripod. If you were to peek at my personal gear stash, this beauty is right at home.Â
Two features I love?Â
The fact it can hold over 13lbs of gear and how each leg of the tripod can handle uneven ground. That means even in the sandy terrain of Florida, I can get a level shot.
Magnus TR-13 Travel Tripod
The Magnus TR-13 Travel Tripod is a solid contender if you are looking for a travel tripod.Â
One of the features that makes this piece stand out is how the main center column is reversible the closer you bring it to the ground.Â
And between you and me, the fact that it folds to a mere 18.2″ makes this tripod an essential piece of travel gear.
Manfrotto MK190X3-BH
And finally, last but not least by any means, another go-to tripod of mine is the Manfrotto MK190X3-BH. One of the features I find myself using on this stunning piece of equipment is the one-handed setup feature.Â
As a proud dad of 4 kiddos, I know just how full hands can be when juggling gear and kids.Â
Don't worry, it will be our little secret if you end up using it for other than just for taking pictures of the kids… sunsets on the beach perhaps?

Mark, These options are going to give you about the same distance from the ground. If you’re looking to shoot more from the ground level, you may want to look at ground level tripods.JOBY GorillaPod 3K PRO Rig is an excellent option when you need to get down and dirty with your photographing.

I invested in the Mangus TR-13.
The weight and compact size was what I was looking for. Was pleased to find the kegs can be adjusted not just in height but also in an angular position to the vertical of the main stem. A small level is nice but wish it was on the side of the mounting plate. Overall am quite pleased and would recommend it too -Janice B.

Thanks for sharing this. I was VERY glad I finally bit the bullet and upgraded from cheapo Amazon Basics and box store offerings to something more durable and reliable! Sadly, I’ve also realized that no one tripod fits all needs! Some of the great folks put me onto Benro several years back. I ended up getting a Benro that has been rock-solid for me. I just happened across this super affordable Benro travel tripod that is only $145 for the carbon fiber model — weighs just 1.0 kg, folds down to less than 16″, max height of 58″, and holds up 8.8 lbs, which is probably more than sufficient for most folks, esp those using smaller DSLRs or mirrorless systems. Best price I’ve ever seen for carbon fiber from a trusted brand. The one complaint folks have shared is the included ball head, but at this price, you can afford to upgrade. One feature it lacks that my larger Benro has is the ability to convert to a monopod. I also just got a Vanguard Alta Pro for the same price ($145). Two things I like: the center column can be easily converted to a diagonal or horizontal arm (super useful for certain shots) and it includes spikes for more secure footing in some situations.
